Simplified, obviously. But that's the shift: the same law, with five options to recognise it from, or none.

Half your SQE2 marks depend on the law.

SQE2 is a skills exam: 16 stations of interviewing, advocacy, case analysis, research, writing, and drafting. But 15 of those 16 stations are also marked on the law you apply. A beautifully drafted document that gets the law wrong loses the marks for the law.

And SQE2 doesn't hand you five options to jog your memory. Whether you sat SQE1 three months ago or a year ago, you produce the law yourself, from scratch, under time pressure. That's a different job from recognising it on a screen.

The FLK Refresher exists for exactly that gap. It's not a skills course, and I won't pretend it is. It's the law underneath the skills, kept fresh alongside whatever SQE2 prep you're doing for the stations themselves.

The marking criteria for each of the stations has been divided into marks for skills and marks for application of law. In arriving at a final mark for the candidate across all assessments, skills and application of law are weighted equally.

The interviewing station will be marked by the assessor playing the role of the client and will be marked on skills only. The attendance note and all other stations will be marked by a solicitor who will assess candidates on both skills and application of law.
